FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2011 So just packing, heading off to Terrace near Alaska for Salmon and Steelhead on *you know the rivers*...Then back to Squamish, then off to Campbell river for Pinks. So just packed these boxes, i'd say i am happy, i tied about 70% of these morsels - i have to pack enough for 3 anglers, so i hope i have done okay for a newb (1 year fly tying 15 years+ fly fishing) A couple of the flies here are from swaps, but enjoy! This 1st year of tying i averaged it out to about 2 flies per day! (keepers) You guys do NOT want to see my reject bin! I know i need more classics and spey flies but give a newb tyer time, he will see the light.... Anything else essential? i got this weekend to work on it...This is all focused on salmon and trout west coast BC style.

gaeronf 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2011 Yes, I agree, looks awesome. Although, if it's for 3 anglers, you might want some more of each pattern.

Great looking flies, but i do agree with that because if you find that one pattern that works great and loose it then your gonna be annoyed.
Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2011 I'll tell you what you're missing but there is no way you're going to know how to tie this: You're missing and need more of the only fly that they'll hit on while you're there and the guy down the stream will be the only one with it. Flies look great! You should be able to find something there that they will eat. Kirk
FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2011 Thanks guys! Probably correct i should have done more of every pattern, tho its probably a good start. Fished Pacific Salmon before but never at Terrace, doing it all cheap DIY style (no lodges or anything, just cheap motels, and rent-a-wreck). So if anyone has fished those rivers and got any hints feel free to PM me. I have already spoken to quite a few people and figured out a few good spots/ fly only/ access/ CW etc. I am quite familiar with Vancouver Island however, so that should be fine. Excited! ZydecoGirl 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2011 With your flies, pack up a mini tying kit with basic materials for the flies you will be using - that way if you run out of something that is really working, you can tie up some more. No need to bring the entire bench -- just package up some materials, hooks, thread, scissors etc. For big materials like bucktail, just cut off a section that you can use. I have done that for international fishing trips and it can be a life saver. Have a great trip! Linda ZG.
