that sucks. It's always a drag when a merchant fails to provide good service.

I second Flytire's remark- Only once have I ever had a less-than-awesome customer service issue with JStockard, and when I did, James addressed it himself right away and it was fixed.

And that is what makes all the difference. Something may well go wrong eventually anywhere. It is what happens after which determines whether you remain a customer.

Yes, have used jStockard before with good success. Feathercraft is good too.........

I heard that South Holston had the best prices on Tiemco hooks (They Do) and the ordering process was smooth but that's all the cudo's I can give.

Still waiting to here about my backorder which I was charged for in advance (not happy about that). Lets see if they come through but i'm not holding my breath............

unless you specifically requested no back orders on your order, they havent really treated you badly.

ive had back orders from jstockard and hook and hackle and have always gotten the item i ordered.

every fly shop out there will at times run out of stock on a number of items. it just may have been the case.

if your local fly shop ran out of your favorite item, would you address the situation here by badmouthing them?

Ive ordered hooks twice from South Holston and both times had no problems even spoken with the owners who helped me out with some questions re: hooks. If you are having a problem call them.

J Stockard same way - one time I had an issue with wrong item shipped James dealt with it personally and it was resolved without any problems.

from what I read here, the problem is that they CHARGED him for the backordered items. I've never had that happen anywhere, unless of course it is a "pre-order" or something similar. If an item is backordered a merchant should not charge for it until it is shipped.

From their website:

Back Orders

If there is to be any delay in filling your order, you will be notified. Back Orders will be held for 60 days. All Back Orders will be shipped within 60 days or cancelled. If you do not want us to ship Back Orders, we must be notified immediately or you will be subject to our returns policy on merchandise returned.

It doesn't say anything about charging or not charging.... but one would ASSume they would not charge for a backordered item, it is just commonly accepted "good" customer service.

For what it's worth, I know the owners of that shop, Rod & Matt Champion, but have not done business with them in a long time. Frankly, they cater to their local area & primarily to trout anglers, and I just don't have need for most of the products they sell. However, they're good folks, and they spend a lot of time out of the shop while guiding, so perhaps the whole matter was a simple mistake. People make mistakes.

Hopefully, all will turn out fine.

I have had orders backordered from both jstockard and hook and hackle and both charged me before the items shipped. I am currently waiting for an item from jstockard that paid for over a month ago.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I've ordered from them at least 5 times in the past with no problems. But I've always called my order in to find out what hooks were availbale. I've not found a cheaper source of TMC hooks.

Low prices don't mean jack if you can't get what you want.

In today's world, it is an off-the-shelf capability to link a database to a website in near real-time to show what is in stock or not in stock.

"they're good folks, and they spend a lot of time out of the shop while guiding" Exactly.
