Fly Tying

Atomic Depth Charge

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody, I'm a complete rookie at this, this is the first fly I've made up drawing on my limited experience. If I've got something wrong or you want a better description, let me know and I'll do my best to correct my post. Thanks.

black crystal dubbing

size 14 scud hooks

rainbow colored brass beads

dub wax

flat tinsel

black 8/0 thread

med copper wire

Midge Flash tan/pearl

wrap the body(head to tail) with 8/0 thread

Step 2

tie in the Med copper wire at the tail end of the body.

Step 3

fold the Midge Flash so there are 8 strands running parallel, and tie this in at the tail of the body. Trim.

Step 4

Next tie the Flat Tinsel in at the tail of the body. Trim any excess from the Head end of the Flat Tinsel.

Step 5

Wrap the dub up the body stopping about 3/4 of the way up the body. Pull the Flat Tinsel up to the head of the fly, and wrap the Med Copper Wire up towards the head(wrapping in the opposite direction as the dubbing). Trim Med copper wire.

Step 6

Pull Flat Tinsel Back Towards Tail. Finish wrapping dub up towards the head, overlapping several times. Trim Flat Tinsel.

Step 7

Tie off 8/0 Thread and trim.

Great buggy looking fly. I like the idea of wrapping the tinsel with the wire like that. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I've been catching a lot of trout with this one in western WI. I'll post some more when I get up to speed with my new hobby.
