FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 So just making a big mess at the bench today *grin*, tying up more of these awesome shrimp flies - they have been successful in both salt and fresh from the north of Australia to the great lakes and beyond, in particular the pink one is dynamite for pink salmon, they have caught all sorts of species so far, they ride hook point up and look awesome in the water. Here are a couple of colour variations, just working on some purple and black models at the moment. Hook - Gamakatsu SL45 (bonefish) #6 or SL11-3H #6 - #4 Thread - Danvilles Ultra Fine Mono Eyes - 20LB hard mono + lighter + wife's nail polish (do this when she is out) or use a simple marker, or even CCG Weight - Bead Chain in black or silver 3/32 or 5/32 + shank wrapped in 0.015 leadfree wire Egg/ Mouth - Silky Fiber Orange or Red, or rabbit, anything wriggly. Mouth/ Horn - EP Fiber in Sand or Brown, again free to experiment. Feelers - Krystal Flash UV Tan, Bonefish Pink or Pearl, with black marker. With the larger sizes you can add a loco legs. (optional). Under Body - EP Sparkle Rootbeer or Pearl. Body - Short Hair Dubbing brush or dubbing loop. Shrimp Pink Hot Pink (anadromous) Tan/ Brown Okay back to it, more colours coming

Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 Those are killer Jam. Look like little candies, which it sounds like the fish think they are. I do like that purple/black in the top view picture. Are those look like loop dubbed bodies? Great work! Kirk

Kirk Hi Kirk, yep little candies for sure, i am trying to make a whole box of them at the moment, and yes the dubbing loop you just alternate between black and purple (same material), i have come to a point now where that combination is just a solid winner, even in more minnows, its just working *shrug* i don't know why but it is. Next issues in a larger size come with more claws, just twisting some chenille for that now. Always need more components! Kinda stayed away from rubber legs, if you guys have any pufferfish/ blowfish in your area you know what i mean
agn54 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2011 Great looking flies Jam, look like they would slay them on the flats. I tie a similar small shrimp pattern using just krystal flash for the feelers and tail, mono eyes and estaz for the body. I really like your though, it looks just a little bulkier and the EP fibers do look really buggy when wet. I'll have to give these a try
