onceahoosier 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2011 I haven't fished these yet. After reading some posts and articles about marabou muddlers being good flies for bass, I tried a few myself. Couldn't resist adding eyes, I don't know if that will help.... Tom

JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2011 marabou muddlers are indeed great bass flies, and the ones you tied are superb. Very nice work!

brad432 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2011 i like both of these, what do you use for the body, and the botom of the tail of the yellow, is that just a dry fly hackle feather?, i cant see it well
onceahoosier 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2011 i like both of these, what do you use for the body, and the botom of the tail of the yellow, is that just a dry fly hackle feather?, i cant see it well Brad, the body on Muddlers is often a a gold tinsel. I used small round gold tubing used for minnow bodies on many patterns, just wrapped it around the hook up towards the eye. It makes for a slightly thicker body than tinsel. The tail on the yellow fly is a segment of turkey quill, which is also used for the wing on standard muddlers. For your info, the yellow fly was tied on a #4 hook using tan hair, the white fly is tied on a #2 hook using natural hair. At the risk of boring everyone, here's a cone head muddler I tied on a #2 hook. I thought I muffed up the trimming so I touched it up a bit after this picture. Hope the fish don't mind. bigfoot 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2011 Are you wrapping the gold tubing on the hook then applying what looks to be deer hair over top of the tubing? BF

BF Bigfoot, I wrap the body up to where the deer hair head will start. I don't spin hair on top of the gold tubing, although I imagine you could do it that way. bigfoot 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 Thanks for the help. I was wondering how difficult it would be to spin deer hair on the tubing. BF
