MDTIDE 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Hey guys. I am new to the forum and used to tie some freshwater trout flies. I quit while in school but now that I am out I am looking to get back into it. I will be targeting saltwater species and wanted to get some recommendations on saltwater fly tying books. TIA. C
NJ All Day 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Pop Fleyes by Bob Popovics. You could always get Bob Clouser's book, also Essential Saltwater Flies by Ed Jaworowski.
agn54 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Pop Fleyes by Bob Popovics. You could always get Bob Clouser's book, also Essential Saltwater Flies by Ed Jaworowski. I agree with NJ, especially with the Jaworoski book. Another really good one is a Fyfisherman's Guide to Saltwater Prey by Aaron Adams, some really cool patterns for 'matching the hatch'. Also, check out the ASWF site (Link) where there is a lot of stuff on flies by Popovics and Steve Farrar
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 If you're looking for a pattern book, check out "Saltwater Fly Patterns" second edition, by Lefty Kreh. The second edition was revised the updated with additional patterns. The first edition is good too, but the second has more in it! Another good pattern book is "Inshore Flies: Best Contemporary Patterns from the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts" by Jim Schollmeyer & Ted Leeson, many of the patterns in this book were contributed by fly shops & guides. bowfin47 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2011 Attend some Federation of Fly Fishers Conclaves, EXPOs, Rendezvous and/or FFF clubs. You will learn so many patterns and tying techniques that you will be astounded. Plus you'll have ball!
Guest Report post Posted October 16, 2011 Go to Google Books and look up Saltwater Fly tying - some of them you can see the whole book. It could give you a good idea if you wanted to buy them or not
