agn54 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2011 A lot has been discussed here on epoxy alternatives like CCG, etc. Mostly about durability, yellowing and such. My question is how do these products compare to epoxy in terms of weight added to the fly? I tie a lot of minnow flies with epoxy heads and they usually suspend briefly before diving head first like a jig. Has anyone who uses them noticed if these products make the fly ride lighter or heavier than those with epoxy?
BigBrownTrout 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2011 I do get the same head first diving on my minnow patterns with a CCG head. Unfortunately, I can't give you a direct correlation between the two as I don't have 2 identical flies with epoxy on one and CCG on the other. I can say that in this application I've been sticking with CCG mostly due to ease of use. Since CCG is not as hard as epoxy when cured I would guess that epoxy weighs a little more, but that is just a guess.
agn54 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2011 Thanks for the input BigBrownTrout. My guess is that epoxy is slightly heavier as well, although from what you say it probably isn't too big of a difference. I was just curious if anyone ever noticed any difference in weight or buoyancy between the two, or even between two alternative products like CCG and Loon for example.
