TheCream 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 I recently picked up a couple of new paint colors, as well as a Delta product called Sparkle Glaze. I did 3 trial poppers using the new stuff, the results I am happy with but the pics don't show you the Sparkle Glaze real well. It adds a clear coat with a subtle glitter effect. It is seen easily in person but isn't overpowering. Dark Patina, sort of a dark steely blue: Olive Pearl, this has some similarities to a more dull gold color: And Moss Pearl, I used different materials to finish the tying aspect of this one. Olive over gray bucktail, flash, grizzly hackle, rubber legs, and some dun hackle as a wrap:

My order came in earlier this week with the Rainy's Frog and Mouse bodies I ordered, I'm working on them now. I just got a few packs of the Wapsi Perfect Poppers a couple months ago and made some bugs, they are nice to work with. Must be the camera angle, they look shorter and rounder than the bodies I'm used to seeing from Wapsi. Kirk

Kirk: I was thinking the same thing. Are they the soft foam Perfect Poppers? They are hard foam, but the Rainy's bodies are soft. Even their "soft" foam bodies are much more rigid than I expected them to be. I am painting them now, and once painted, I may only give them a few coats of something like Hard as Hull instead of a thick epoxy coat like I gave these. That is more or less my "standard" painting scheme. Simple, easy, and repeatable. I have some more intricate ideas for the frog bodies.

TheCream 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2011 Nice paint job on them poppers. You find the balsa wood yet? I may have a chance to look in Parkersburg on Saturday. I'll be over that way in your favorite state of WbGV (West by God Virginia, so you know) and might have a chance to look. I finished the paint on two of the Rainy's bodies last night, I will Sparkle Glaze them tonight and possibly epoxy them tonight. Can't decide if I want to use epoxy on them or not, but I probably will.

Aguabonita_RC 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2011 Those are some really great looking poppers!!! Though I haven't tied any poppers, these give me inspiration to try. Also, kudos on your picture taking skills. I know that folks have varying degrees of skills and equipment but it's nice to see some great shots. It sure helps me understand the materials you used. And they just look cool. Thanks!!!
