rockworm 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2011 Since NJ identified John Gierach from the first clue (!) I think I will start on the last author today: "As a fly tier develops his feeling for the look of a fly, it begins to show in his work. The flies of an individual tier may be as distinctive as the work of a painter."

jad74606 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2011 Every year about this time I mix up a few batches of dubbing wax specifically for tying soft-hackle flies. And as usual I made more than I will need. So I propose to package up a selection of waxes and offer them as prizes to whoever is first to identify the author of the following quotes. (I will give one a day until Halloween.) The first quote should be familiar to most: Hi Bruce, Got these in the mail yesterday and they are very cool. Handy little dispensers and even descriptions on each. We here in Mass. are just getting over a 4 day power outage from a nasty storm so I haven't had any time at the bench to test any but will send you an email as soon as I do. Thanks Again! riffleriversteelheadslayer 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2011 I got mine today also and I am very anxious to get tying with it I really like the dispensors and I am extremely impressed by the different variences in the wax but I think my favorite is going to be the sticky as I do alot of touch dubbing in my tying and I will definitely let you know how it works Bruce thank you so very much for your generosity
rockworm 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2011 Thanks for the updates, NJ and RRSHS. I am especially interested in your appraisal of the Sticky wax. The other waxes are slight refinements of formulae I have used for years; but the sticky is like a prototype. Since I am not an old hand at touch-dubbing your comments on the Sticky can really help me in my quest to make the perfect wax for this purpose. riffleriversteelheadslayer 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2011 I'm curious if you have or are selling your wax blends
rockworm 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2011 I'm curious if you have or are selling your wax blends Are you saying you are interested in buying some? Actually, what I sent will likely last you years! But, no I am not selling my blends. (Although the idea of custom-blending dubbing wax to match a tyer's specific needs has crossed my mind.) Don't be confused by the packaging- I just like to do things right, with a bit of polish.
