Any fish I don't see and lose was a gar. Pure and simple, I lost a big gar. My mistake it was a Gar. 😀

DFoster 0 Report post Posted August 30 These smallies were caught on Saturday morning with a #6 Royal Coachman streamer. Not big but they were hard fighters with lots of jumps, great fun!
DFoster 0 Report post Posted September 11 Yesterday I got rained out on the way to my Small Mouth river, but on Saturday I found an absolute gem of a brook. This is a cold, high gradient Brook Trout stream in the local hills and I got to do some true “blue line” fishing. Super spooky fish in shallow clear water meant lots of cast from a kneeling position behind cover. The trout we’re willing to take dries and I caught all of these on #12 Gray and Royal Wulffs. I ended up netting 4 and losing a really nice one on what was apparently a poorly tied knot. A few others just missed the fly. The Brook Trout were starting to show their fall colors. niveker 0 Report post Posted September 12 Sadly, I've been out very few times this year. Hopefully things will settle down in the next 4-6 weeks and I'll be able to get out before the weather turns. In the meantime, I'll fish precariously through these posts.
DFoster 0 Report post Posted September 18 My wife and I are nearing the end of a major home renovation which consumed massive amounts of my free time over the past several years. I'll put a post about it in the lodge section. It's always a balance for me to make time to fish vs adulting. IMO from Labor Day to Thanksgiving is the best fishing of the year and not to be traded being a grown up unless no other option exist. A house project once forced me to miss fishing the entire Autumn save one September day. I finished the house just as the weather turned nasty and I promised myself to not to let life do that to me again. I resolved that I would make at least a few hours to fish each week, the next project (and there always is another one) can wait a little while more. I hope that things, whatever they are, do slow down for you and allow you to get some stream time in during this glorious season!
