mikechell 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2016 Sorry, people. I didn't have my fly rods with me, but I did do a little fishing at lunch time.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 Were those Sand Cranes at the start of the vid?
mikechell 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 Yeah, they have little to no fear here. The ones at the house actually tap on the windows to get pieces of bread. Wife feeds them and they take bread right out of her fingers. Those two in the video kept approaching me, so they've been hand fed, too. But I didn't have anything, so they just mosey on around. Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2016 Cool. We have some that pass through the state during late summer but the ones here are no where near as "sociable" as what you have there from the looks of it.
Chuck McFarlane 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2016 Early Season Smallmouth. Found a player on Monday. Went for a very slowly presented marabou muddler.
vicente 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2016 Man Mike I wish I had ditch fishing that good around here lucky to find a little pond before some comes along and fishes it out in two weeks.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2016 Vicente, this particular canal has it's ups and downs. As you mentioned ... someone will come along, fish with night crawlers and keep everything they catch. For a year or so, it will be fairly empty. I seem to have gotten to it before the "eaters" come along again. I'll try to hit it at least once more ... but someone will see me fighting a fish ... and it will actually be that "sighting" that brings the "eaters" back. It's a vicious circle. Chuck McFarlane 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2016 Nice solid early season smallmouth Cuck. Makes me look forward to warm summer days. Thanks steeldrifter. That fish sure warmed up some pretty cold fingers. Was out again today and lost another. Really looking forward to the warmer weather but I guess the slow fishing will keep me busy for now. Morrowboarder 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2016 I failed last weekend here in central Illinois for early smallies on the fly. They haven't quite started heading up the tributaries yet, but I had to check for the sake of my sanity. Beautiful and healthy looking smallmouth you have there. Dave G. 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2016 Today 32 deg and snowing so you guys are doing better than us up here in the NE, but this won't last. Sunday was beautiful and saw the first bass boats out and about. Ice has been off the ponds about two weeks now, looks like it's here to stay that way, time to get my license me thinks. The only tip I had they were starting were a few startled minnows flashing near the surface from time to time. Couldn't really tell if something was under them. Guess now it's always worth a try.
