Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2016 That's a pretty fish, Piker. Yeah it is. Wouldn't mind having that in one of my aquariums
Piker20 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2016 Yes they are a salt water species here. Come in some lovely variations. That's just a small one but for their size they fight very well. They live tight to rocks and structure right in the swell of the waves and use their teeth to pull limpets off or crush crabs.
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2016 I see a lot of Wrasse being caught in the British and Irish fishing videos. Looks like a lot of fun, "Light Rock Fishing". I don't have much desire to leave the US anymore, but I wouldn't mind a week of doing that.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2016 Yeah they pull back that's for sure.
FlatsRoamer 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 Here is a nice( and tasty) 14inch mangrove snapper. Used the store bought floating (wiggly minnow? by Umpqua). I would have used my own flies but I woke up super early and my eyes werent fully functioning. So I grabbed the wrong fly box. Anyways I was sight casting while standing on my kayak and didnt even see him come up and eat it. It was really shallow (2ft) and a topwater snapper on fly is NOT something you see every day. As usual, I will probably receive some kind of critique or another haha.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 Can I critique those shorts? lol Just givin' ya a hard time. Nice fish. Good to see young guys like yourself getting into the sport! Steve
mikechell 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 You've got sunglasses on to protect your eyes. You're wearing a PFD. You've got a pretty fish in one hand, a fly rod in the other and a big smile on your face. Nope, no critique from me. Even the shorts (LOL Steve) are standard Florida gear! I do have one suggestion. I find rod control to be best with forefinger, ring and pinky on the grip. I wear my stripping guard on my middle finger to control the line. You don't have to do it my way, but you might try it to see if it works for you.
FlatsRoamer 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 And don't forget the 5$ buff! For the shorts that was my bathing suit as I waded around a little. And Mike, notice how the rod ISN'T in my mouth... that pic was for you; )
mikechell 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 I noticed ... "a fly rod in the other and a big smile on your face." Can't show a smile on your face if your face is full of fly rod. I did notice the long sleeves and scarf. I know you're protecting yourself from skin cancer, and I understand ... but I just use 30 SPF and consider it enough. So, it wouldn't be right for me to condone or condemn such haberdashery.
Bimini15 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 Is that place in Palm Beach County or does it just look like it? Great pic.
FlatsRoamer 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 Is that place in Palm Beach County or does it just look like it? Great pic. In the South Miami area
vicente 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 I honestly hate the way sunscreen feels I wear long sleeves for work on a regular basis because of that, soonest all of the cheap sunscreens are pretty bad for you to.
Bimini15 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 In the South Miami area Aha! So it looks just like PBC, only with fish...
vicente 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2016 New fish for me caught it up high at 6,768 ft in elevation in the Sierras I certainly want expecting to catch perch up there.
