Beetlemania - Pyramid Lake Cutthroats

Recommended Posts

I've been having pretty good results with a simple white & chartreuse foam beetle on Pyramid Lake Lahontan Cutthroats this fall.

The USFWS requests that you report any tagged fish. These are a "Pilot Peak" strain Lahontan Cutthroats which were the origin strain of cutthroats in Pyramid Lake before "progress" wiped them out in the early part of the 20th century. The US Fish & Wildlife Service has been stocking them back in the lake for the past 5 or 6 years. Most of the cutthroats currently in the lake are other strains of Lahontan Cutthroats. At any rate, reporting information on tagged fish helps the Service monitor the success of their efforts.

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, which owns the Reservation that Pyramid Lake also tags fish that they stock as well as "prize" fish for various fishing derbies.

Long answer to a simple question...

Excellent fish! Are thr lahontans are as aggressive on dries as other species of cutts?

Marc

Nope, no dry fly action here. Most fish are taken either with wooly buggers or foam beetles and in the spring with chironomids under indicators.
