CrookedHook 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2011 So everyone knows about the hackles in the hair, and yes some are upset because of the prices; however, I have a solution to the problem. Today one of my wife's employees came to our house for a bit and noticed all my feathers etc. and she started asking about feathers for her hair that people are wearing. I said a choice few words as nice as possible when, at the same time I started to rant, she noticed a dragonfly I tied. She asked "Did you make that?" and I stated yes why do you ask. She stated "all those other flies also?". I said yes. Now, to make a long story short, she asked If I could tye her some dragonflies, parachute flies, and several others on a broach or hair clip and she would buy them to wear on her cloths and hair. Now, this lady I am speaking about is a die hard fan of Gucce, DG, prada, and all that other jazz. If we can't beat them, join them. If they wanna wear the hackles, we might as well tye them some flies to wear also. What do you think?
NJ All Day 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2011 Well some people are making ear rings out of flies and stuff like that.
TitanFlies 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2011 That's awesome CrookedHook! You must tie some mean flies; let's see a pic! You as me what I think? I don't understand all this contempt towards the trend. A lot of tiers think it's nonsensical for women to be putting feathers in their hair... just like a lot of style-savvy women think it's nonsensical for us to be lashing them onto hooks. It's not like these chicken farms raised their birds JUST for TitanFlies. I mean, that's like a HUMMER owner getting mad at a Smart car owner for buying gas "because he needs it more". It's selfish really.
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2011 I think you better insist on a price way up there---- if she's Gucci and Prada, she's used to paying huge $$ for stuff. You should be able to get $30 or $40 for a dragonfly.

It's selfish really. Not Really, I am just a novice tyer but I do catch a fish every now and again. However, She does not know much about flies; therefore, I will take advantage of the situation and charge a fair price for the flies if the person wants to wear them in her hair. As a matter of fact she stopped me again today and asked me if I could tye more for her daughter and mother. Hell, a trend is a trend. Take advantage of what we can get and go with it. Thats how I view it.
nightheron 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 How about a different approach. There are enough of us here (women tiers and guys with wives and girlfriends) to start a new trend. Let's get our girls to start wearing rapalas, spoons and spinner baits. Think it will get our hackle prices back to normal?
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 Let's get our girls to start wearing rapalas, spoons and spinner baits. nightheron, are you crazy? I for one also fish with that type of hardware, and some of it is costly enough as it is! Just what I need, a $100 Rapala!
jimk 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2011 Well, with all the piercing body parts, why not start a trend wearing Rapalas hanging from noses and ears? We could blame Bill Dance for starting it.

flymanaj 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2011 Just add some some flashabou or some krystal flash to your patterns. Like fish women also like shiny, sparkly things.
SmallieBumm 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2011 I used to work at a Gander Mtn and I had a lady looking at the Lindy blades you can buy and she bought a box because she said she was going to make ear rings out of them. Pretty nutty.

If it was Bill Dance's fault, they would be Fat Free Shad cranks.
H.Champagne 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2012 Have you guys ever seen the video of bill dance fishing with just white socks on? he is in his boat talking to the camera wearing just white socks and goes to turn around and steps on a crank bait and falls with the crank bait attached to his foot and the carpet. CrookedHook 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 Yeah the same girl I was talking about told me today that she seen a lady wearing one of those wide belts that they wear around the stomach area and the "buckle" was made, from what I gather, the section of a ring neck pheasant feathers. I guess it is all fun and games. Fashion for them is like new flie tying material to us I guess. Something new comes out and it becomes the hottest thing on the market until something else new takes its place. My buddy told me the other day that he didnt understand all the hipe over new products. He stated that he remembers as a boy that he would use old burlap sack material to tye flies. Oh well.
