nhagan 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2012 I have just started tying a few of my own flies. I saw some bluegill flies posted around here and figured I would give them a go myself. I used your basic craft foam for the body along with bullfrog dubbing from FTD. Added a bit of sharpie for the finishing touch! I am happy with my first go around. I may sit down tonight and tie a few more in a different color. Again nothing special but I am very happy with how they turned out and look forward to contributing some of my own creations later. Thanks for looking. -Neil

Mickalo 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2012 thanks guys these are size 8. I will try a few in size 10 tonight! Neil In my experience I wouldn't go much smaller then a 12, when fishing for gills, they tend to really swallow the hook. Keep up the good work. onceahoosier 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2012 Great looking flies. Well done! I haven't fished for bluegills since I was a kid. I bought a 3wt rod last year for a trout fishing day in Wisconsin, now that I have it I'm planning to try my hand at 'gills again this spring. Looking forward to it. ditz2 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2012 Gills are fun and tasty too if you are so inclined. I tie on 10s but I do tie a few on 14 or 16 for those days when they seem to hit but not take the fly.

fshrmanms 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2012 Looking good! And #8 hook is great. I use a lot of #6's, keeps from having to take a bunch of little guys off the hook.
