Fly Tying Bench - Chefben4

Sadly I dont have the space currently to have a dedicated room or workshop for fly tying. Mine is somewhat mobile. I have the very high tech tv tray and a few storage containers absolutely packed to the gills. One day I will expand my fly tying empire, but until then this is what im working with!

Not too different from mine... a little bigger. It works for you; that's what matters. I move back and forth between NC and FL couple of times a year, and I'm also portable. I carry all my tools, hackles, etc., in two boxes, about 4" and 6" deep x 8" x 12". My "desk" is a small cutting board from Bed Bath & Beyond. I put some small nylon stick-on feet on each corner so I can get the small side of my vise clamp under it. I use it on the kitchen bar, or at my computer station. My only gripe is that I'd rather have my vise more toward the middle of the board. Cabelas has a pedestal base I'm thinking about buying. Either that or make my own base.

Until last year, for at least 38 years my stuff lived in a closet and had to be taken out and put away for each tying session. Often, I spent more time setting up, locating the specific materials etc., and breaking down and putting away than I spent tying. Whatever it takes, you know!

I know it turns out some beautiful work. I like the simplicity, it has a nice homey feel to it. I know what you mean about limited space as I am crammed in one corner of the garage.

Cant believe this is resurrected. My desk looks much different now. More crap of course, a myriad of smeared marker colors, and stickers. Hopefully will have a house with a dedicated room soon
