tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Quite some nice flies! Reminds me of some I've tied for our saltwater trout. Although they're not really trout at all. Weakfish & Spotted Sea Trout. This picture is from our Natural Resources Dept website here in MD. One old fly pattern, something I first saw back in the late 60's or early '70's was called a "Seatrout Special". It was tied on a saltwater style O'Shaughnessy hook, had a wing of white bucktail, a wrapped silver tinsel body, and a red hackle collar. A few strands of flash were usually added into the wing too, but back then what we had was very limited compared to today's selection of flash. I also liked to tie that style of fly with the orange & yellow collar , which worked quite well & made a very handsome looking fly!

tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 Cheers, Fine on your sea trout, but ours are brown trout that have run to sea. Yep, I knew your trout were Sea run Browns, I browsed thru your blog! You tie some beautiful flies BTW! My comment was simply that the flies used can be very similar, even though the species really are not!
