MrFlyFisherGuy 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 Hey Im going to Veradero, Cuba next week for a family vacation and I want to do some fly fishing, anyone know some good spots to fish or a good guide down there? What flies to use? I'd love to go for some Tarpon or Carp action! But I don't really care what kind of fishing I'm doing as long as it's awesome. LOL All info is appreciated! Thanks

Peterjay 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2012 Americans aren't specifically prohibited from traveling to Cuba, but as far as I know, it's still illegal to spend any money there under the Trading With the Enemy Act. Most Americans who visit Cuba do so illegally, and would face heavy fines if caught. I read an article by Jeffrey Cardenas in Fly Rod & Reel a few years ago - he's of Cuban descent and wanted to visit the country and do a little fishing there. His report was anything but encouraging, in fact it was downright dismal. Subsistence fishing had pretty well hammered gamefish populations, and in some cases, had wiped them out. gaffer 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2012 Plenty of Canadians go to Cuba to Fish, especially in the Cayo Coco area and Las Salinas in the Zapata National Park and the Rio Hautiguanica. http://vimeo.com/19717622 If you are looking for info, hit up my local shop FishTales.ca. They run lots of trips, or can hook you up with a guide. Andrew
