I (sort of) recall someone posting a link to freebie wood desk plans; not a tying station, but a decently put-together desk (that could be built inexpensively; (I wrote down this address: http://www.woodworkersworkshop.com at the time, I think.)

Yup, here is the actual link.

You can buy a second hand desk, of some sort at alot of places. The desk I use is an old sewing machine desk, with the machine removed. This is where I put my vice.

Any desk can be modifyed to suit your needs and save you alot of cash.

My first tying bench was a "TV tray" I had around the house. It worked fine for a while, but didn't have any place to store/hold tools and materials. Now I've "advanced" to a roll around typing desk that works really well. My plan is to modify it with tool/material/thread holders.

To me, it's too easy to find something around the house or garage or a flea market or yard sale (etc.) that you can modify to meet your needs. For the price you pay for a simple "fancy store bought" station, you can put together a really nice station that is like YOU want.... not someone else who designed the store bought ones.
