Betty 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 Good looking flys and I especially like the head with big eye.....nice and clean. Should be a killer, send me a dozen to try out here in the NJ surf
Capt Bob LeMay 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 Those are first rate. I've been experimenting with large Clousers on jig hooks with good results. Instead of the usual lead eyes I've been using the largest size bead chain eyes in combination with a 2/0 hook. I'll have to take some pics of the next batch I work up. agn54 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 Very cool. Those look like they would be great for fishing deep on the grass flats since they should be fairly weedless. They look like they would ride like a bannana jig if weighted, which are deadly when bounced along the grass or sand holes. I may have to score some jig hooks now
bad fish rising 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 another good hook for keel flies is a gamakatsu rubber worm hook with the offset it comes in thin wire which only by bass standards is thin & heavy wire models also extra wide gap models (EWG) ive seen alot of bass & pike flies tied on these hooks
nyFLYguy05 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 Thanks everyone! Capt Lemay,do you fish jighook flies a lot? It seems latley the jighooks are getting very popular, I like em for a different look, weedless attributes and hook rides up. I wanna make weighted flies with these hooks from size 1 to 4/0. Perfect for toothy critters as well. Badrise, I check out those hooks, they look really nice! I wonder if they would worm for some worms flies as well? Agn I use banana jigs for fluke bass n weakfish nd have great results! I'm hopin these flies swim ok, will know by this weekend!
Capt Bob LeMay 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2012 I'm still just doing a few here and there, but early results have been very promising. Add a light two prong wire weedguard and you can come up with a Clouser that's 99% snag-less in some very bad areas (multiple large trees downed into 2 to 6' of water along mangrove jungle shorelines). We're working flies and other arties in places holding large snook, reds and the occasional surprise (small to medium tarpon prowl the outside edges of these kind of place at dawn..). bad fish rising 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2012 i use a 30 degree jig hook for the rear of some of my articulated flies so the front hook rides down & the jig hook rides up death trap style the large gap front hook keels nicely with the jig hook so your fly stays very upright in the water
