How do you judge the size of bead chain eyes for carp flies?

How large is the dad and how deep do you need it to sink and how fast do you want it to sink???? It all depends....I tie most with medium size but try some with no weight and some with lead of different sizes. I don't like casting the large lead eyes with my 7wt or smaller rods.

these guides for beads were posted somewhere on the forum. Its a good guide for bead chain too as you don't want the beads at the extremes for hook size used.

The chart that Piker20 provided is a great starting point for any type of fly. I tend to use the hollow Bead Chain eyes and use lead wire wrap for additional weight on the shank if needed. I feel I have more control over depth and function that way.
