Novelty spin

Recommended Posts

Inspired by the Jitterbug post, I have always collected novelty lures, budweiser can, simpsons characters, light up coors cans etc. These do catch fish as well as being a novelty item.

Is there any equivalents in fly patterns?

I don't know about novelties, but everybody I know has their favorite bunny fly, and I'm no exception. Bunnies are deadly on just about everything that swims in salt water, and no self-respecting angler would be without one. I usually don't share my favorite bunny pattern, but I think I can rely on you guys not to steal the design and sell it to Orvis. (I apologize for the lousy picture, but it's the only one I have, and the fly is packed away somewhere)

Wow. it took me like, about a minute to realize that the orange and green thing was a carrot in a bunnies mouth. at first when i looked at the un-blown-up picture it looked like some sort of weird bird beak.

anyways... what about the clownfish flies that Bruce Derington tied? would these count as novelty flies?

Thats a great link flytire. After I posted I didn't think there would be any. Guess there really is everything on the net if you look for it.

Here is one I came up with, taking advantage of a partially finished spun deer hair body that a student left behind in class one night. I finished it with miscellaneous materials laying on my desk top. I call it "The Seaductress".

Most everything I tie comes out looking pretty strange.

Just not intentionally.

LMAO - I think it's safe to say we can all identify with that statement.
