Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2012 Went out fishing, trying to explore some new streams. We have invasive fish (pickerel, bass, perch.) pretty much depleting our trout stock, so I liked to get a fly wet once in awhile to see what I can bring up. This beautiful day I had 2 of fishingbobnelson flies. Well as you can see from the snapshot it did get interesting, but if you want to see the video goto sdnovascotian.ca The nymph got chewed up pretty good. mikechell 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2012 Cute little turtle. Poor little bass. But pretty neat that you got it all on film and didn't hurt the turtle.
riffleriversteelheadslayer 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2012 yeah that turtle would look much better in a pot with some taters, carrots, garlic, and onions
Ruffells311 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2012 Neat little video. I'd like to see the flies you were using! I find it interesting to see the things bass eat. I mean large mouths will eat anything from tiny leeches to small birds.
WoodRiverTroutBum 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 So you tortured a fish and fed a hook to a turtle and found it "humerous"? There is something wrong with you.
Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 Yup yup that would be me, torturer of fish . So you tortured a fish and fed a hook to a turtle and found it "humerous"? There is something wrong with you.
Ruffells311 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 Cycle of life.. Tis a cruel thing but it happens. Plus, I'm pretty sure he said he retrived the hook. Any how, a hook of that size would more than likely just rust and not hurt the turtle.

Any how, a hook of that size would more than likely just rust and not hurt the turtle. I have no problem seeing animal eaten by other animals in nature. However, being pulled in one direction by a hook and another but a snapping turtle isn't exactly natural. Chances are the hook will end up stuck in the throat of the turtle, if not the stomach. If it makes it through there by chance, the intestines. Man paranting has gone down hill since I was a kid. Coincidence that the country has as well? I don't think so. So I got this walleye hole and it has two big resident musky in it. Apparently their favorite thing to do is wait for the walleye to struggled on my line than try and smash and swallow it as im reeling it in. This event happens multiple times in a night and almost every time I fish at this location. I also have to try and wrestle the musky in because he often takes these walleye head first and gets hooked. He always breaks off and I know for sure he’s got like 20 of my hooks in and on him, now this is my fault as I am fishing there but how are we supposed to stop an animal from doing what it does, should I stop fishing there to stop from destroying the muskies internal organs? This happens to a lot of fisherman I have no idea how much time you spend on the water but I spend a lot and snappers are around...a lot so this happens to me a lot. Animals like mallards, little brown bats, sap suckers, ring billed and herring gulls, painted turtles and snakes have all found a way to get a nice piercing from old Druce. I’m a fish and wildlife conservation student, I have a great respect for this countries fauna as I’m sure all the members of this forum do as well, most that fly fish seem to make connections and solve problems to entice their target and this in itself creates enlightenment and a great respect for the natural world. Parenting has nothing to do with it.
Ruffells311 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Play the video and stop it at the very end. He removed the hook. Plus at the end of his post he said the nymph got chewed pretty good. How would he know that if the turtle ate it? And couldn't have said it better Druce. ( the argument of a nymph hook getting stuck anywhere in the turtle was still irralavent 1. The hook is tiny so it would at most make the turtle uncomfortable 2. It would rust of fairly quickly) I mean my flies, if not dried properly, will start rusting and be unusable in a week or two. Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Ruffells311 thanks. I want to thank all of you for your support and understanding. WoodRiverTroutBum I don't know who you are or where you are from because you have not listed anything about yourself. Enough said. Too much time and energy is spent on that negative comment. Now as for the turtle soup, I am intrigued. How you would ever get a snapper to do anything without breaking your bones or removing a few digits is not something I would like to experiment with. I have not heard of anyone in my neck of the woods eating turtles. Bambi and thumper yes but not turtles. To be honest I wouldn't know the first thing about how to go about it. Restaurants are probably my best bet. At least with snappers. Thanks for the positive feedback on the vid. I will be having a few more of my encounters with other animals while fishing being uploaded soon at www.sdnovascotian.ca Just subscribe through the feed and it will let you know when they are uploaded. I will be having email subscribtion soon. All my vids are short takes. I am glad you enjoyed the vid.
