TheCream 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 I was sitting at the vise last night, knowing I needed to tie some more of a pattern I call a Bunny Baitfish. It's all rabbit, zonker tail with some flash and wrapped crosscut blended with some fine flash in a dubbing loop for a body up to the cone head. It kills bass and crappies and is simple to make. You can also blend different colors of crosscut for this effect: Anyways, I saw a section of a streamer brush I made a few weeks ago and decided to try a new version using a brush of Senyo Laser Dub as the body instead of the crosscut zonker (which I am low on). I think these will work pretty well. These are basically my top 4 colors of the Bunny Baitfish in the new style with the Laser Dub brush: I'll do a few more trial versions then go see if they are smallie candy on Sunday. I think the smallies will devour them, and these are quicker to make than the all zonker-style version. The brushes I used above are these blends: gray/pink, white/red, olive/chartreuse, and rusty brown/black.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 They'll be easier to cast too having less rabbit in 'em. look good.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 Those are good looking lures. I am waiting to hear if they catch fish. I'd have to go with the darker colors for the tannin stained water here.
Ruffells311 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Great looking flies! When you say brush, are you just referring to a pre-made dubbing loop of the material?
TheCream 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Great looking flies! When you say brush, are you just referring to a pre-made dubbing loop of the material? Yes, I have a spinning tool that lets me make basically a dubbing loop out of thin wire, materials spun together into it and brushed out. I tested them for the first time last night, not a great area to test them but it was all I could do for a last second trip. I fished the Hocking near Athens, OH which is a cesspool during the middle of summer. I had several gar chase it down and one bluegill (albeit a fat, nice gill) get the hook. None of the gar were hooked. The fly looks killer in the water, though!
Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Those look great. The flash in the body really should catch their eye. Nice ties. Kirk
Peterjay 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Nice flies - the all-bunny version's a popular albacore/bonito fly up north. (usually all-white) I've tied a few using leech yarn for the body, and they also seem to work pretty well. I'd imagine they'd attract just about any gamefish. notenuftoys 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2012 Those look really great! What wire do you use when making your brushes? I think I'm going to give some homemade brushes a try.

zachxbass 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2012 I make something similar on a 4-8 size jig hook, but with bead chain black eyes. Crappie, largemouth, bluegill, and smallmouth have all been caught with them. Nice looking flies!
