mike15851 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2012 get your prescription and go to walmart vision center and get a new pair in the stronger magnification, they sell frames with lenses as low as $39. they might sound cheap but this is one time that old saying "you get what you pay for" definitely does not apply. I wore a pair of the wal-mart cheap glasses for a few years before I got good medical and vision insurance through work.
Peterjay 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2012 I never go in the kitchen. (at the wife's request). But sometimes I'll find myself in the back yard. Starting to feel like that old geezer in "On Golden Pond". You're doing fine Chase. As long as it's your back yard and not somebody else's, (or worse yet, somebody else's house) at least you don't have to be concerned about legal issues. Of course, if you're also wearing a football helmet and a grass skirt, it may be time to start worrying.
Gregg A 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2012 I had the same problem. I either took the glasses off or put on a pair of those reading glasses you get at the drug store.
fishingbobnelson 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2012 I have worn some type of multi lens glasses since I was 10. My first glasses were bifocals, I now have trifocals and I have never had a problem with the line, perhaps because I have always worn them. My new eye Doc, when I told him I was a fly tyer, gave me a Rx for some glasses just for tying. They have more magnification than the lower lens in my trifocals. Because they are a single lens the cost was cheap.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2012 I agree with all the suggestions for reading glasses. Take a fly that's hard to see, go into a "dollar" store, a Walmart or any drugstore and head for the reading glasses kiosk. try on glasses until you find a pair that will give you great views of the fly at the distances you tie. Then you'll have your dedicated tying glasses !!!
saltydancindave 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2012 After 15 years of bifocal tying had to go to the Giraffe magnification; then after another 10 years had to combine both stronger magnifications for around the #20 size hook range; & now years later is now the saltwater around #1/0 hook size. Obviously if I can't read headlines in a newspaper without glasses, don't even consider tying as the back is out.
