What's the secret to taking your water-loving dog fishing??

Recommended Posts

This is a friends dog and I hope when I have a dog one day, that I myself can train him to not move with a live flounder on his head and hold a rod in his mouth

Went fishing on the Catawba River below Lake James. A great tailwater fishing in NC. There are a lot of downed trees. Big trees! Anyone's dog can go fishing, but how many climb trees?

I have never encouraged my dog to tree climb. Squirrels freak out when the run up a leaning pine and the dog goes right up after them.

This little Guy, Angelo, was our constant companion, on the water, for eleven years, before he passed away last year...

Me and Ange on the East Walker River...

He attended K-9 school, here in Los Angeles, with me and worked off voice commands and hand signals...we attended a refresher course every six months

...Angelo,with my son Michael, on the Lower Owens River...

Now, my daughter Ally and I are working with this guy...

...whose name is Hero...she was getting him acclimated to big water up on the Bay, last weekend...he will be going with us up to the Lower Owens River in the next two weeks....he is being trained the same way...gotta' work with the dogs...

Have fun on the Lower Owens. I have been fishing it constantly with great success. A little insider info, they aren't letting any water out of the power plant and it's at about 100 cfs or less. The fishing between the plant, and the res is awesome right now! It's also a great place to take your dog.

I actually prefer the company of my Choc. lab over the ones whom complain about my dog on the waters. If you have a problem with it then I tell you to move on and find your place to fish or else.;-) My dog has as much rights to enjoy being in the waters as much as you which unfortantly have less manners in the beginwith then my dog. My lab has never interferred with someone else fishing unlike a bunch elitest snobs hogging the waters like they freakin own it! Pathetic basturds!

I fished with my dog, Masie, a Brittany / Springer cross fishing almost everyday of the summer and had no problems. being a bird dog she was quite content galivanting through the bushes chasing birds while fished. the only problems i ever had was when she saw a bird on the other side of the river, and decided to cross the river right where i was fishing. This would end up with her disturbing the whole pool, me having to swim across the river to get her, and a "bad dog".
