Johnwvan 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2012 Hello---I'm trying to improve my deep caddis pupas wing . The biggest problem is finding a good material and getting to lay flat against the body. I have tried quill sections and starling feathers from the wing base but nothing looks quite right. Thanks---John
rockworm 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2012 I take it you are not talking about LaFontaine's Deep Caddis Pupa, which has no wing. A picture would help illustrate the problem. However, if the wing isn't laying flat against the body you are probably tying it in over a soft surface (like a dubbed thorax?) Try laying down a good firm, level base of thread on which to mount your wings.

rockworm 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2012 Very nice fly! I see your problem- clearly the wings are being pushed out by the dubbing behind the tye-in place. This shouldn't happen if you follow the suggestion in my first post.
Johnwvan 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2012 Tried a new approach. Straight hook, and I cut wings from Spirit River stonefly wing pre cut "skeleton".---Better I think?---John
