switch10 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 I've recently found the perfect strike indicator solution, and I've converted pretty much all of my fishing friends... Get some foam ball or teardrop type indicators, throw away the toothpicks that are included, and buy a big bag of rubber bands. Feed a loop of your line through the hole in the indicator, and put a rubber band through the loop in your line, and pull the rubber band through the indicator with the line, and cut the tag ends of rubber band off. Make sure you leave enough tag though to tighten it. You'd be surprised how well the rubber band holds in place, especially when it's wet. Simple. Doesn't damage your leader. Doesn't slip when you cast, yet easily adjustable. Very durable.

kentuckytroutbum 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 Great idea! Hate the way that yarn indicators or thingamabobbers leave a kink in my leader. I'll try it. Quick!, go find a patent lawyer before someone else does. Bill

kentuckytroutbum 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 I was in the Dallas Orvis store yesterday, and they had the Insta-set indicators for sale on a rack. Taking one out of the bag for evaluation, my first impression is that the tubing may be too large and too slippery to grip the leader or tippet, and may slide down while casting. Switch 10's idea of using a rubber band might be the better way to go. Replace the tubing with a rubber band. Anyone have experience using the Insta-set indicators, and how did they work? bigdewy 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 I switched from toothpicks to rubberbands yesterday, and was amply rewarded!! Took a bit to figure out just how tight the rubberband needed to be, but it all worked like a charm and made moving back & forth between shallow and deeper water a cinch!! Thanks for the tip Switch!. switch10 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2012 Check out the spent wing hoppicator I tied up the other day! Mono loops at the eye and hook gap to run your leader through, making it fully adjustable.
