Panama Red 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2012 i'd be concerned about the warranty. where do you send it to for repair? where do you get spare parts? heres one that says "CNC" but lower on the page it says "1.Aluminum alloy die-casting body, line wheel" well which is it?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fly-Fishing-CNC-Anodized-Aluminum-Fly-Reel-5-6-Silver-R05-/251071659575?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a75097e37 i guess youll get what you paid for @ $19.91 Some reels are cast alloys and then machined to reduce weight and present a cleaner more refined look, while others are machined from solid aluminum. Many store brand reels and e-based retail reels are made in Korea or China, the ones I have purchased have performed admirably with nothing more than a fresh water rinse. The drags on these reels are fairly smooth and more than adequate for the type of saltwater flats fishing I do, speckled trout, redfish, pompano. etc... In fact Earlier this year I fell into a marauding school of jack cravalle on a BVK 6wt with an import reel...about 10-15 min later and many drag burning runs into the backing, a 10 lb plus fish lay at my feet. I do own a nautilus FWX 7/8 and am about to pull the trigger on a lamson litespeed II 3X just because at this point in my life I can... Not to mention I am aslo a hopelessly addicted tackle and equipment geek But, just for the record... The "import" reels found on e-bay can be an excellent value for the money if researched properly (use vendor with return policy), as can many store brands and e-shops. I have five imports and will not hesitate to buy more. Comes down to budget and where you where you want to spend the extra $$, a custom rod, maybe a sage, g loomis or whatever you like. BTW, my Sage 3100 2wt $200+ reel was mage in Korea Tight lines...dave
Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2012 Couldn't agree with netabrookie more. I've seen more than one person (usually a youth) turned away from this sport because he thought he had to lay out big bucks for gear. I've been throwing flies and annoying fish for a lot of years, and the most expensive rod I own is a $100, and I felt funny about spending that much for it. I have no problem with $700 rods and $500 reels if that's what a person really wants and can afford it, but I'd rather not be afraid to use 'em on a stream for fear of damaging my investment.Don't think I've ever had a fish ask what make rod I used to catch them. 762x39 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2012 This is a 7# Carp (Koi) that was landed by my wife on a 6' 2wt rod and an ebay reel, and I can assure you she was on the reel for over 15 or 20 minutes landing it. The Reel performed flawlessly and did it intended job very well. This is just one of the reasons that I will continue to purchase the import reels witha note of confidence. lmao great fish, I though for sure you guys were fishin over your neighbors yard into their KOI pond. 762x39 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2012 I bought one of them for one of my own personal rods I built back in the spring. Used the hell out of it all summer battling 4-5lbs smallmouth which REALLY put the test to the drag and it preformed perfectly without a flaw. You can't beat these reels. The comapny that makes them overseas is the same company that makes them for the "USA big name" companies just with a different milling on the spool&frame an about 1/3 the price. Get one you won't regret it one bit you have my word. here is the one I bought back in the spring for a new rod I made myself.... Hey I PMd my address to you and you can just go ahead and donate that rod to me. What a gorgeous rod. Thanks everyone who replied in this thread, lots of good info, thanks for replyin to the new guy on the site.

There are 21 of those lakes in that community some with over a mile perimeter. Bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish redears,carp(3species)and talapia. All catch and release, single hook and no bait other than worms allowed. That particular one fell for a Crystal white wooley bugger.
