Carved bass on flybox

Recommended Posts

Here is a flybox that I carved a bass on, for a Christmas present, that I thought ya'll might be interested in. The carving consists of very shallow cuts that I stained with an ebony stain using a small paint brush for the details. The outline and the darker shaded areas were stained several times to get them dark enough. I sealed it with a gloss polyurethane but I think I may take the sheen off of that and go back with a satin instead. Now all I need to do is fill it up with flies.

Okay ... I opened the pictures and they look great. I don't know how a 5Mb picture opens in a size I can see, but I am happy they do. Your skills are impressive. How long did it take you to complete ... and what tools did you use?

Thank you gentlemen I'm glad y'all like it , it turned out even better than I expected, the shading with the stain was something that I wasn't really sure about but it worked very well and really made it pop. I have been wanting to do one of those for awhile now and actually picked up two of those boxes intending to do one for myself but had to give it up for the secret santa swap, and now I hate to let it go!!!!

I used a small curved tip carving chisel to cut the image but a scribe would probably work pretty good too. I think I've got about five hours in it total
