Peterjay 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2012 Just a reminder that money not only can't buy happiness, but can make your life go south in a hurry. Lots of lottery winners go broke within a few years, wind up drug-addicted, divorced, living in tents, or even dead from unnatural causes. Everybody you've ever known is gonna come looking for a handout, including the brother-in-law whose guts you hate, and droves of people you may or may not have met at some point in the distant past. Relatives of winners have even been known to hire hit men to speed up potential inheritances. In short, your life is most likely gonna become miserable and brief. In order to avoid such a horrendous fate, I'm recommending that should any of you guys hit the Big One tonight, it would behoove you greatly to immediately forward the unsigned winning ticket to Peter Jacobson c/o general delivery, Wachapreague, VA, 23480. Since there is only one Wachapreague in the world and there are only 225 residents here, the postmistress already knows me and there'll be no delivery snags to worry about. Remember folks: your happiness is at stake. I'm willing to make this sacrifice in order to prevent the lives of people I care about from becoming totally unmanageable. I'm sure you'll thank me later. (if you can find me that is )
Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2012 I'm so grateful, I have tears in my eyes. BUT - any of the above mentioned twists of fate would be a step up for me. The very first thing I would do is buy a new tent with no holes in it. So, I'm going to keep my 2 tickets.(Yes, I have reduced the odds considerably than you losers who only bought one ticket)
flytire 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2012 The chance of a ticket winning a Powerball jackpot is 1 in 175,223,510 (slightly better than the chance of winning a Mega Millions jackpot, which is 1 in 175,711,536). Here are a few unlikely scenarios that, we're sorry to say, are much more likely than you taking home this jackpot. Lottery winners' lives ruined From the Harvard School of Public Health: -- Dying from a bee sting: 1 in 6.1 million. -- Dying from being struck by lightning: 1 in 3 million. From U.S. Hole in One, which insures golf prizes for holes in one: -- An amateur golfer making a hole in one on a par-3 hole: 1 in 12,500. -- A golfer hitting a hole in one on consecutive par-3 holes: 1 in about 156 million. From a 2011 State Farm study on collisions between vehicles and deer: -- Hitting a deer with a vehicle in Hawaii, the state where State Farm says deer-vehicle collisions are least likely: 1 in 6,267. From the National Weather Service: -- Being struck by lightning over an 80-year lifetime: 1 in 10,000. From the Florida Museum of Natural History, based on U.S. beach injury statistics: -- Drowning and other beach-related fatalities: 1 in 2 million. -- Being attacked by a shark: 1 in 11.5 million. tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2012 Peter, that's really kind of you! I don't expect to win, but still play the game. I also say my prayers: "Lord, please give me the opportunity to show that I can still be a good & decent person, even with several million dollars in the bank, Amen!" Peterjay 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2012 I'm so grateful, I have tears in my eyes. Peter, that's really kind of you! Think nothing of it boys. Just one more example of the selfless attitude that has made me the man I am today. I could never live with myself if one of my friends wound up in a life of debauchery and hedonism when a simple act of kindness on my part could have prevented it. joops 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2012 Thanks. That is very thoughtful of you, I don't want to be a statistic. If I am unlucky enough to win the lottery here in the UK it will be in the post.

C Teeter 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2012 I must be suggestible. Had to look at the topic twice. At first I thought it said Powerbait grief. I read Powerbait too and thought that Peterjay had gotten desperate enough to fall back on "bait fishing", and now I feel quite guilty after realizing how great and generous of a man Peterjay really is. Thank you for being there for all of the greedy masses, you sir are a real inspiration.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2012 I read somewhere that you would have to buy 1.75 million tickets to increase your odds by 1%. I've always liked the saying, "Lottery is a tax on the mathematically illiterate."
