SCOwens 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2012 I am so close to purchasing this product, just want some ideas before I do, post your flies and make me a believer will be picking it up on Saturday probably. Simon
terrymiller1973 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 I cannot make you a believer in the product but I can tell you in a lot of cases it makes things so much easier. I like the fact you can sit and move the product around on the fly for an hour to get it exactly how you want it then cure it in a matter of seconds. The fly's from me in the swap have the flex on them to give them some body but it is still flexible. With the UV resins you can do things that would be a lot harder if even possible. I made a couple of these which I do not think could be done with epoxy. I first covered the wire with prismatic tape then did light coats to get the thickness I wanted. FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 If my buddy in West Australia goes to a pizza shop and mentions that the goo is the poo then yeah, you gotta have it I do hope that is the convincing you need! Does not cure in the pizza oven.
SCOwens 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 Yes I have heard multiple times that the Goo is the Poo ...
crawfly 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 I'm not a user of the poo. I use Deer Creek UV. Really tack free before anybody else, was the main reason, amongst the other benefits of UV resins. Not only does it expand creativity, it typically adds durability at the same time. There simply is no other way I could tie some of the patterns coming off the vise these days ..... here's a couple
petegray 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 Bug-Bond...
crawfly 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 There are several other reasons I use Deer Creek, besides the diamond resins ......... gliss & glint+ (unique blends in-house) gliss & glink slink dome eyes (again, unique ..... also in-house) Kind of a one stop & shop sorta thing ...... Nice flies Mr. Gray
petegray 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 'Nice phlyz Mr Crawfly... I've tried... TF, CCG, Loon, DH, and BB... the only one currently in my kit... Bug-Bond Original Formula applied with the Pro Tip...
Chefben4 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 I have a slightly biased opinion on this because I prostaff for one of the companies.. So my suggestion to you is to try them out. Different thicknesses applicators and all that good stuff. Everyone has their own opinion so its real hard to go just on someones judgement. The beauty in fly tying is the trial and error! SCOwens 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 Thats basically what I look forward too, someone adv me to go ahead and buy the light on eBay and not on the kit, I thank him for that, I was having trouble in finding one before, but gave me the right seach options and found one very easily, so it will delay in me using it ahead of time but also saved me around $20. I will keep yall posted, I also was mainly looking for ideas for its arrival. I have saved all of the pictures that were posted. THANKS EVERYONE and Pete that Purple Fly is beautiful, where can I get my hands on some Bugbond to try
terrymiller1973 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 if you dont want to wait on the light to be delivered go down to the local Sally's beauty supply and pick up a desk top UV light.
SCOwens 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 I think I will make it for another week, haven't had it for 7 years whats one more week haha
petegray 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 Give a shout out to Greg @ whitewaterflies or Scott @ bearsden and you will receive it at the speed of e-commerce... [they carry all the L.C.A.'s] I've tried all the major light cured acrylic's out there and they are all quite brilliant but the only one still in my kit is Bug-Bond Original with the Pro applicator tip... p.s. google "phly welding"
crawfly 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2012 I staff for DC but it wouldn't make any difference one way or the other ..... There were only 4 co.s in play at the time. CCG was just coming out to make it 5. I tried it after the fact. That product line,CCG, has expanded quite some since and I'm sure it has gotten better. If you want to get by on the real cheap you can get loon knot sense or wader repair and put it in sunlight for about 10-15 secs. too. (I did that for a while.) BB was recently picked up by Wapsi so you should see it in more shops before long. Get what you can and give it a go ..... it's the name of the game, isn't it?
