Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Wow that's a real budgie. Do smaller flies just not work or do they only attract jacks?
rolsen 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Guys, I hate you all I'm stuck into hotell room without my tying gear and you put all those beauties into this thread..damn u. Keep up posting, I'm a masochist!
FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2013 What a meaty fly! Hahaha poor rolsen. This is for Chefben - the hook is one of those size 8 Mustad #C47SD Saltwater Shrimp, then you put some little beadchain on, cover body also with wraps of 0.015 leadfree wire or a couple of strips of 0.020 on shank, attach a mouth part like rabbit fur or finn raccon, little burnt mono eyes, some feelers. Then attach micro crystal chenille or 'crystal hackle', wind back to the bead chain and then trim the top and sides so you are just left with 'legs', then attach a small wing of EP fiber and trim to shape. Here is a quick darker one, need some very light tan crystal hackle i think, even clear if that is possible - but the pic shows body and wing. i tie quite far into the bend of the shrimp hook. (should show the tying).

I got an idea.. lets plan a fly tying forum trip to the Bahama's in 2014!! One can dream right! Bonefish is number 2 on my list currently with Tarpon holding down the top spot. FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Crazy idea for a bonefishing trip! And i would be up for it indeed, only fished for them down in Aus and as i understand places like Belize are only a short couple of flights away and relatively cheap...well compared to going to some remote island in the pacific. I'd love to do it one day, i also understand i can talk cricket with the locals Chris Gayle m0n!

Crotalus 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Nice fly Kevin. I see some changes I can make to mine - less bucktail, more hackle. I think I am tying the bucktail a bit dense. Do you have an SBS anywhere or material list? Man i want a musky this year!

FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Mistakey Spey type - actually sent this to someone. Never really used a gold 1.5 hook before. I guess they are more suited to bright colour patterns and full sun.
Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Hackle Walking with flymphs - Two turns of hackle at the eye, then palmered back thru the thorax for that "buggy" look.

The gold hook makes a good change from dark hook and gold tinsel.
