Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2013 A colleague asked for a fly using some of her dogs hair. So in honour of Lagan here is a little nymph/wet fly for her.
Wavey1988 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2013 Tied up some red tag variants. I call them variants because I didn't have any red wool, so used red marabou for the tail.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2013 Never was a fan of the wool tail. That looks good.
Wavey1988 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2013 Thanks Piker I think I got a good length with the tail, not too long but should have decent movement. I'm hoping my local fish think they look good too
Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2013 Yeah marabou soon looks less when wet. The red tag is a good pattern and that tail can only benefit.
C LeBo 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2013 what size did you tie the deerhair on? That looks a good pattern for my seatrout. A little like a Jambo fly. Its tied on a size 2 Keel hook. Never been seatrout fishing but it can be shrunk quite easily.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2013 Messing about with some Partridge. This one has the afterflue beneath tied in first before the hackle.

Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2013 Those Soft Hackles look great, Piker. Here's one from earlier this morning.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2013 Tried the Goat toe (yes I love this fly) with JC eyes. Not really sure it adds anything. Tried long and short. If anything I prefer the short with heavier hackle but the sparse and long might be taken as a shrimpy type.
rolsen 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2013 Nice ties dudes! Some "new" dressings, color scheme taken from Lutheran priests' suites, pastor and bishop.
Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2013 Man, those are some great looking flies! CLebo, I like that deer hair bug alot! If it doesn't dive like you'ld like, you may want to make sure the collor is trimmed flat on the bottom and the collar hairs don't protrude downward - it could be the angle of the picture but it looks like there may be to much collar below the hookshank, which may counteract the diving collar on the top with a little upward push. Flytire, that is a great little minnow. You should repost your Warmfly SBS on here, I'm sure folks would be pretty surprised at how you created this little gem. For my January fly, I was playing with some remnants of faux fox dubbing brushes that I hated to throw away. The scraps worked nicely for this small #2 sized minnow. Kirk Fluffed out to show the underbody and collar of wrapped faux fox brush at the head.
