JANUARY flies

Last nights pile for filling atlantic and pink salmon boxes. Got a black wing blue charm (slightly mod), a modified 'Copper Killer', and some Pink salmon lanterns.

Just for fishing, nothing too fancy.

Thanks guys! Just a street hack here who likes to tie flies for fishing in Canada, only been doing spey type/ streamers for 1 year now, been at this tying game for about 3 years.

Like keeping it simple as my style is........Make my leader and tippet really nice, tie on a freshly tied really neat fly, strip line from the reel, start false casting and hook the fly in the tree behind me before it even sees water, have to break it off losing entire leader set-up, have people laugh at me, poke the fly in the tree with the tip top on my fly rod trying to lodge it free, re-tie entire leader, tie on fresh fly, repeat.

Been tying a pheasant tail nymph variation. On a curved hook, with an orange coloured dubbing at the thorax and hen pheasant for the thorax cover :)

FlyFishn'Jam,

Oh my god was I laughing over the " fly in the tree behind me before it ever see's the water" been there, done that. Poking it with the rod tip, man that is true fly fishing humor there. Don't tell me, your also looking over your shoulder to see who's looking at you while you poke the fly too...right? Man it sucks when that happens. Because the fly is brand new, you waist half a day poking, saying to yourself, come on baby, come on drop baby. LOL!!! The trees I have climbed to retrieve a fly. I have to wonder what others are thinking when they see me up in a tree. I just wanted to say the picture of the flies you took is really nice. It totally caught my eye.

The colors, arrangement, I just think it would make a really nice framed pic for a wall.

I caught my favourite Bucher lure in some far bank bushes once, flagged down a canal pleasure boat and had them ferry me across to untangle it and then take me back to the right side again. Nothing more frustrating than a lure, float or fly sitting just in sight but out of reach.

Last time I got hung up in a tree, was using a hard lure. Wasn't gonna leave £10 of lure up in the tree so I went up after it, slipped, and bust a rib on the landing lol

Like those. Is the Herl bodied one a twisted mono tail? Second fly in 5minutes with that look. I like the etheral look it gives the tail.

gpd4,

I have allways liked the way wire bodies looked with two colors. I've planned on tying some for years now. LOL.. Got all the materials, just haven't taked the time. I live in Kansas so I tie mainly warm water flies, but I do get to Colorado once or twice a year to fish for trout. Also we have some stocking programs here in Kansas so I get to trout fish a little during the cold months as long as the ice is not on the water. I got to get some made. I like it.

Wavey1988,

Let me guess, The lure you hung was a Rapala. I'll go scuba diving to get my Rapala's back.

Expensive to loose hard baits now days. Thats one thing about tying, its a cheaper loss, but it still hurts to loose one of my hand made babies. LOL

Yeah a Rapala suspending lure. Only time I've let one go is when I got it hung up in the metal work of a pier xD

Wavey1988,

I knew it...lol Rapalas,,, boy are they proud of them. ten dollars for a lure, and I see some out there that cost twenty dollars and more. Crazy!!!I cringe every time I have to cast a Rapala in a snaggy area.. LOL But then I gag when a big bass breaks off a stacked deer hair popper that took 45 minutes to an hour to make too. LOL
