pacres 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2005 http://www.whitingfarms.com/spey_hackle.htm I'm looking to get into some of the new Whiting spey hackle. Has anyone on the board had any experience with it yet? i'm not really sure what colours I want to get either. It's not too expensive, so I'll likely pick up 4 or 5 saddles. I'm getting the Heron grey, and black for sure, but beyond that, what do you guys suggest for color? You input is appreciated.

I have got some necks but i think the fibres are to thin for my tast so i'm still using heron on the spey flies. Maybee you get better ones in US they keep the best for the local market i think but i hope that the next shipment well be better.
Guest Report post Posted January 7, 2005 They are kind of sparse, if you use two hackles at once it looks much better.
pacres 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2005 So what colors would you recommend to get?
CharlieD 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2005 You are getting the 2 most important ones already, Gray and Black. Yellow would probably be a good choice. There are some Glasso patterns that call for yellow. After that I guess it would be personal choice. Charlie
Mark Vickers 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2005 I'm not impressed with the stuff. I won't be buying it again. Its pretty sparse and flimsy. The Whiting Spey hackle is a heck of a lot cheaper than anything else out there, but my preference has been that if I need cheap spey hackle (for fishing flies), wide schlappen has fit the bill much better.
