Guest Report post Posted January 24, 2013 When I posted my Stonefly nymph patterns, the question arose about one of the hook styles I use. It's the swimming nymph hook, and it has been a humbling hook type, because just when I thought it was my tying that made the difference, I realized (while taking pics for this post) that nearly every nymph I tie on this style hook produces fish for me! It isn't about the brand either, because Daiichi makes a nice "Swimming Larvae Hook" that I have yet to tie with, but have in my stock waiting to be used. I'll post them when I tie them! Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2013 Here's a soft hackle tied with a Daiichi 1870 Size 14. This may be my new favorite hook.

netabrookie 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 I have been tying some nymphs on Daiichi 1770 swimming nymph hooks and really like the look. I have played around and tried a few other things on the same hooks and liked them also. Take Care, Tony

FishDragon 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 I have used the Dai Ichi hooks for san juans, midge emerger patterns, and a few other types of flies but one thing you should know is I found them to straighten out quite a bit in a tough fight.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Soooo fishdragon, what you're saying is they only hook HUGE fish. That's all the persuasion I need.
flytire 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 at 1x fine, i think they may to be too light of a hook for stone flies these may be more suited but its entirely up to the tyer
Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 And what are those hooks?

FishDragon 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 @Piker20 I have landed lots of small fish as well but when fighting a few steelies in the 4lb range I have had them straighten, same when fighting trees, and rocks lol.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 I don't mind hooks that give a little and come back from snags. Feels better than leaving them in the water with length of line attached.
