Febuary 2013 flies from the vice

Recommended Posts

A few of the many soft hackles I've tied this month. Just a few more patterns on the list and I can start on my classic winged-wets.

Arctic Fox Clousers. Fur is from a dyed arctic fox mask, color is a very dark green. I removed all of the under fur from the bunches of arctic fox so the remaining guard hairs have great action in the water (swim tested). Reminds me very much of a bunny strip leech in the way the fibers flutter in the water with each twitch. Tried to tie them sparse and they still came out fairly chunky.

I tie a similar fly with sealfur rear end. I think the combo of herl and soft hackle is just unfair on the fish. Its so good.

My 2nd quill wing dry ever..and they said wets were though, welcome to the dry world tongue.png Wing is bit too long and hackle bit too short, but I'm happy for this 'cause I usually don't tie any dries.

Rolson..WOW. I like it. Got the wheels turning in my brain!

I got off work a little early yesterday so I cracked open some of my home brewed beer and turned out a bunch of random flys. A few inspired by the beautys that have been posted this month.

Chefben -- Love that Maui Waui Spey Variant. I'm a huge fan of purple steelhead flies. I may have to switch gears from my tiny wets and tie some.

Here are a few picket pins from last night:

Thanks... Im happy with the way that it turned out. It is beefed up from the original design for bigger pike. The other two streamers are about 10 inches in total lenght. Hopefully some big preditors will take a swing at them.
