Trying Out Tube Flys

Recommended Posts

I received the order I placed from The Canadian Tube Fly Company today and boy am I excited! I spent $90 with shipping and taxes and got myself a tube adapter for my vise, a handful of tube and junction materials, some weighted cone heads and some rhea to play around with on my intruders and other spey flies. I wasted no time sitting down at my vise and I have been tying all night since I got off work. Just like everything else I am sure there will be a steep learning curve but what better way to learn then to jump in both feet first.

I wish I had more time to tie but tomorrow is another early day at work and I better try to get some sleep. I am enjoying playing around with tying tube flies and cannot wait to actually fish them!

Good work - those flies will catch. FYI - I recently bought some tubes that lure makers use as spacers on big spinners. They appear to be the same material as the ones sold for fly tying. They're cut shorter, (maybe an inch or a little longer) but the price per inch is quite a bit less. I got them from Stamina or Netcraft, can't remember which.

Thanks guys!

Peter: I will have to check that out, being able to find a cheap source of tubes would be great for the long run. Right now I just finished tying up 3 more crayfish tube flies...they are slowly getting better I think.
