Cutting Latex Strips

Recommended Posts

I got some latex gloves from the Dr's office with the idea of making some latex bodied caddis pupa. But I'm having a devil of a time cutting strips from the gloves. Do any of you have suggestions on how I can cut reasonably straight strips? Thanks!

I use double edge razor blades that I have broken in half. Use two small bolts at each end of the blades to hold them after first using washers to space the blades. Three, four or more blades can be used to cut multiple strips at the same time.

You can use the same method to cut rabbit strips. Just be sure to cut from the "inside" of the hide and don't cut against a hard surface or the hairs will be cut. Darning hoops can be used to stretch and hold the hide.

Tape your latex to a self-healing mat and then cut it with a rotary cutter.

I only use the cuff portion of the surgical glove.

You can also buy sheets of natural latex from smallparts.com.

That the best system I found that works!
