Guest Report post Posted February 21, 2013 I'm looking for some feedback on tungsten beads and hoping you guys can help. As you guys know I have been slowly introducing my own products. I have fly boxes, scissors and hooks. This year I am looking into a line of tungsten beads. For it to be feasible for me I would probably have to sell them as either 50 or 100 packs but I believe I can offer them at a fraction of the cost of what it cost for tungsten beads elsewhere. So, I have a few questions. 1. Do you use enough tungsten beads to justify buying a 50 or 100 pack if they were reasonably priced? 2. Do you have a preference on color; brass, copper, etc? 3. Is there are particular size of bead that you use more often? 4. What would you pay for a 50 or 100 pack? Thanks for all of the help. If I get some positive feedback I hope to get things into production within the next month or so.

flysmallie 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 1. I don't see a problem in buying the bigger packs. Especially for a reasonable price. 2. No preference on color as long as they are black. 3. I like something a little bigger that will fit a size 6 or 8 hook. 4. Been awhile since I stocked up so I'm not sure on price.
Simon Lidster 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 1. Yes, 50s or 100s no problem 2. Brass and black, (preferably matt black) 3. 1.5mm, 2mm and 2.5mm 4. In the UK, up to £10 for 100 Maybe not too helpful as the shipping of heavy metals would be pretty costly! Simon
Crotalus 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 1. Yes 2. Gold, matte black, chrome black 3. 5/32 4. $5-$10 for 50 depending on size, $10-$20 for 100 depending on size
bigdewy 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 1. Yes 50's and 100s, no sense farting around with packs of 10. 2. Gold, black, white & red mostly. 3. 2.5mm & 3mm 4. I paid $12.00/hundred for the last ones I bought, plus shipping which was a flat $4.95. I used to get them for $10.00/hundred which if I remember correctly included shipping from a guy on FAOL and really thought I was getting a deal. Maybe that's why he doesn't sell them anymore. I hope this pans out Will!
Guest Report post Posted February 21, 2013 One thing I have noticed that most retailers charge the same for beads no matter the size or the finish. From the manufacturers I have spoken with the cost varies greatly depending on the size and the finish. For example 3/16 sized beads are over twice as expensive as 1/16 to manufacturer and gold is more expensive than the other finishes. So, paying a single price across the board doesn't seem quite fair and I will try to base my prices on the cost.

Scud 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 Definitely yes. Gold, copper black. Many different sizes. 50 and 100 packs would be great. I even think hooks should be 50 and 100 packs. Jeremy
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 I very much like tying with tungsten, and 50 or 100 packs would be great. However, I'm probably in the minority as far as sizes, as I'm mostly tying bass flies & use the larger sizes more than anything else. Not many places stock the big beads. As far as finishes, I've got a little of everything, but use matte black or black nickel more than the rest. I've paid as much $20 for 100, so if the prices are better, that's certainly a plus for me!
flytire 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 1. Do you use enough tungsten beads to justify buying a 50 or 100 pack if they were reasonably priced? NO, but if they were reasonably priced then I might use more 2. Do you have a preference on color; brass, copper, etc? All colors would be acceptable 3. Is there are particular size of bead that you use more often? I basically use 1/8 inch and smaller 4. What would you pay for a 50 or 100 pack? I would pay a reasonable price according to size and quantity
switch10 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 I have been getting mine from New Zealand!! I would prefer to buy them from somewhere in the U.S., but it has been far too expensive for the quality you get. I need several different colors. Copper, black, and silver are big ones for me, but it's nice to have a variety of different stuff as well. I mostly use sizes 1.5mm-3mm, with 2mm probably being the most common. I pay $33.50 for 250 beads. Shipping is included. http://www.ebay.com/itm/180825437681?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
