I have found that craft foam fits the bill most of the time unless I need sizes larger that 6mm. Once I need larger I end up glueing sheets together with super 77.

I had an archery target that started to open up ( one of those cubes) and it was all foam sheets. Mostly 1/8 to 1/4 inch with 2 inch thick sheets on the outside. Managed to save a bunch that didn't have too many holes.

Great for gurglers and lining my fly boxes and even made a tying tools holder out of the 2 inch stuff.

Never know where you might find that stuff.

Bet if a bought a new target I could sell it by the piece and make a bundle.

I tie a lot of popper and slider patterns with sheet foam.

There is a difference between craft foam and evazote foam.

Evazote floats higher than craft foam.

Evazote is sturdier, I have several flies that have taken multple musky and a still holding up quite well.

Evazote "flairs" better (think deer hair). Some of the patterns I tie involve folding and cinching down the foam, and the evazote works better than craft foam does (if this makes sence)

Evazote is more expensive than craft foam.

The two foams are different, and each has it's place on my bench.

Now if I could just find evazote in larger pieces than you can find at the fly shops, life would be grand.
