Redfish Swap

Recommended Posts

I wish i could say it has, wind has been howling all weekend. I hope the conditions change and should have better luck tomorrow when all tourists leave town, this was Warriors Weekend when they take all the troops out for fishing trips upon their return from overseas- a great program. The guide that we always use won the tournament weigh in yesterday in all classes. I still have this evening and tomorrow morning still so we will see,fly fishing in POC can ne challenging without a flats boat but there is 1 place and I have caught several reds and trout there. Fyi- the Stealth Bomber fly was the fly of the week in the local paper here.

Good looking set of flies showed up today. Great work all around. Thanks for hosting atx.

Going to be putting them to work over the next 10 days, got some great high tides for wading.

Wow, I feel like a kid in a candy store. Things don't look good on the Gulf with the storm stalled.

Texasg: how did it go? We're you able to slip away and get a hook wet?

You all did an outstanding job. Tex, thanks for hosting and give me a holler in the fall and we can CHECH out the Guadalupe. I have had good luck with a res San Juan worm. Of course, it's nice to know the stocking schedule. Lol

Didnt go too well Dontheo bad weather all weekend i couldnt justify renting a kayak to fish in 20mph + winds so i fished from the bank where i usually get at least 3 or 4 little reds or trout on a fly but no luck; the guy using live shrimp next to me did well though. I may possibly head back down there for Memorial Day weekend but it is up in te air right now. I was thinking about maybe hosting a Tarpon fly swap so let me know if any of you guys would like to join or if any of you guys want to host let me know as i would like to join in as well.

A bit of a preview.

I got the second set done much faster than the first. Breaking the process down into two sittings for the flies seem to make things much faster.

The pattern is fairly simple.

B10S Size 1

Eggsac/Mouthparts: Orange Synthetic Fibers (I used a PIP fiber form Fly tyers dungeon. However the Enrico pattern calls for a orange streamer brush.)

Antennae: Green Sili Legs

Eyes:Crustacean Eyes

Claws: Barred Tiger Rabbit Strip

Body: Gold Sparkle Streamer Brush

Small Lead Eyes

I tied this batch in two steps:

Lead Eye-> Eggsac -> Antennae -> Crustacean Eyes

Claws -> Body

By breaking it up, it helped make for a more durable fly.

I make the crustacean eyes by tinting five minute epoxy with either Testors enamel or fine cut glitter.

Love these! Very sorry I missed this one. Got busy with other things and I've missed way too many swaps. :(
