That's a great worm but I'm a bit of a beginner so the tying instructions of "simple" leave me a bit lost.

I like to tie red floss or yarn at halfway down the bend of a sudden hook and just wrap forward.

I found a really easy but nice looking worm pattern.

 

Materials are pretty simple.

There are times when your style of worm will work for me, and a SJ Worm wont. You are on the right track in my opinion.

Use the condom flies with in a few months. I had trouble with the material drying out and cracking. Just my experience. Others might not have that issue.

24 guage red wire wrapped around a size 6 mustad has been the most effective worm ive ever used. no thread no nothing, just wire wrap worm.

started putting diff colored thread head, that was just more or less for looks, they still dont work as good as the straight wire worm.

you might try a latex condom worm they use little thread and look quite real

 

Right on - Vladi style worms are awesome. You can do this with a latex glove as well... Break out the sharpies and some fleximent or a thin UV resin to prevent the latex from breakding down over time and you have a totally killer worm pattern that's tied in a flash.
