I know a couple of ways, 1 is the soak and split/... palmer 1 split side like a hackle ,and the next is split thread, the other is stacking. Rhea is nice it won't matt like marabou, very keen to see what you are doing with it! Usually i just cut the strands off and either dubbing loop or stack.

Thanks fellas, I figured the stem was to thick to wrap sparsely. Danville's Flymaster Plus is my favorite for split thread dubbing.

Mike, don't hold your breath, I've got a bunch of spoons to do for customers on top of other things; just thought I would pick this up while I was ordering some other stuff.

Yep a bigger thread like flat waxed and gsp is what you would use to secure it and make a split thread, also it can be used nicely as a longer flowing hackle in a fly, done well it can produce a very nice profile.
