Bubba_Da_Man 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Freshwater: Rainbow Trout Brown Trout Brook Trout Creek Chub Greenback Cutthroat Trout Kokanee Salmon Largemouth Bass Smallmouth Bass Bluegill That's not much, but it's a start. I plan on trying for some saltwater species this summer down around Louisiana and Texas. I also plan on catching my first pike this summer. I'm still trying for a Steelhead but that has proved to be a rather difficult challenge for me.

Christopher K 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2013 I stand in awe of you guys and your ability to distinguish the difference between the sunfish species. All I know for sure are crappies and bluegills. The others are a mystery to me, but they sure can be pretty. I've never seen a green sunfish, but pumpkin seed have light blue lines on their cheeks and redears have what looks like a red ear, and ocean sunfish aren't really much of a sunfish http://www.ted.com/talks/tierney_thys_swims_with_the_giant_sunfish.html I'm sure an ocean sunfish would respond that anything as dinky as a bluegill is the one that isn't much of a sunfish. We see them in late summer during the albacore run; they lie on their sides with those big pectoral fins sticking out of the water. I tell the tourists that they're killer whales - the kind that swim right up onto the beach after prey. I'll bet I've ruined more than one vacation at the shore. MUUUHHHHUUUUUAAAHAHAHAHA!!!! LMAO! Largemouth bass Rock bass Warmouth Bluegill Spotted sunfish Redear sunfish Pumpkinseed Green sunfish Golden shiners. And I'm into micro fishing with tiny little flies. Eastern mosquito fish Mummichog( only saltwater species ) Star headed minnow. That's 12 for me, although I've caught and recorded over 43 species on conventional gear. Tailing looper 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2014 25 for me so far..... Fresh water: Rainbow trout Brown trout Brook trout Lake trout Landlocked salmon Smallmouth bass Largemouth bass Rock bass Bluegill Red ear sunfish Pumpkinseed Black crappie Yellow perch White perch Northern pike Chain pickerel Sheephead (freshwater drum) Brown bullhead Golden shiner Chub Salt water: Striped bass Bluefish American shad Scaup Alewife Saltwater non-fish species: Snail Quahog Lady crab Blue crab I think the most memorable was the Brown Bullhead. :-) I had just bought a nice, new Orvis 2-wt. and was out on my buddy's dock on Lake George, NY, showing it to him. I noticed a big (biggest I've seen) bullhead laying on the weedy bottom in about three feet of water -- a strange sight in broad daylight-- so I cast to it. I pulled a bead head Prince right by its nose and it took it. What a way to break in a new Orvis rod! Tight lines, Bob
