Bubba_Da_Man 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 This question was brought up on Facebook and I thought I would carry it over to this forum. What music do y'all listen to, if any, while you're out on the water?
Stippled Popper 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Carrying what is need for fishing is enough. I don't bring any kind of music player with me. But there is a lot of music recorded in my wetware. It can be played back from there and will not bother anyone else or the fish.
DUBBN 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Every once in awhile I get to hear my reel sing. Taking music/phone on the river isn't my thing.
Christopher K 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 I don't listen to any, but on the way to the river it's tragically hip and the Beatles all the way
mridenour 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 It may sound corny but I listen to the water, birds, animals and all the things I can't hear when I am not on the water. I don't want to contaminate my fishing with a lot of noise. Except for when catfishing. That is more like a party with friends. There is often music or a ballgame playing on the radio. It seems to go well with the lawn chairs and beer!
Peterjay 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 I thought fishing was all about communing with nature. There's plenty of time to listen to tunes at home - the last thing I want to hear out there is canned music. In the car it's a different story. It's the last great Rock 'n' Roll band. flytire 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 nature has the best sound system going. why listen to anything else?
riffleriversteelheadslayer 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 nothing while fishing the whole point of fishing is to get away but in the truck on the way is a whole different can of worms got to be uncle Ted something about the motorcity mad man to put you in the right frame of mind to be out there in the great outdoors soaking up all that spiritual fullfilment
Nate 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 I think if you are plugging into the "digital" world while fishing you are totally missing the point. All I want to hear is the sound of the water, of the wind, and of the fish splashing in front of me. If I want to listen to music I go to a dark room. williamhj 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 I think it's a 'to each his own' kind of thing. I don't listen on the water either. Like hearing the river and all that but I would really hate to miss the sound of a rising fish because I had headphones on. If I fished in a more urban environment I might add music. Nothing relaxing about car horns, brakes, and the like.
Bubba_Da_Man 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Thanks everyone for your input, but let it be known that I don't listen to music on the water either. I, like the rest of you, enjoy the beauty of my surroundings when I'm on the water. I enjoy listening to the river, it helps me clear my mind. I was just curious as to whether any of you DID listen to music while fishing. The only time I really ever listen to music is when I'm bass fishing on my Grandpa's pontoon boat, in which I turn on a Classic Rock radio station and keep it turned down low enough just to provide for some background noise. Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Like the others I don't listen to any music while on the water. Just the sounds of nature. While at the cabin before or after fishing I do listen to some. I always take two CD's with me on trips. One is the soundtrack from Dances with Wolves and the other is the soundtrack from A River Runs Through It. Both are really beautiful scores of music and nice to relax to after a day on the water while tying flies.

DrVette 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 I don't usually play anything while fishing either. But there are a couple of areas along the river near my house that are congested with people on the bike paths and close to the hyways sometimes i will take the ipod when going there. I prefere to relax with Pink-Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, or even RUSH when i do...but most of the time nothing at all.
