What music do you listen to while fishing?

Recommended Posts

Alexander Grant was a really good fiddle player. He made fishing rods that were harmonically and frequency tuned and tapered with the wood he used for the rod. He could thump his "vibration rod" out there. I'd say he fished by "ear". He fished to the sound of music.

Myself, I fish in the key of C. At least I think I do unsure.png .

“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.”
Hunter S. Thompson

I'm with the Dr. on this one. I have music playing from the time I wake up to when I fall asleep with my headphones on. I need music even when fishing. I understand the majority voice on here that they use fishing to get away from the world but I don't. My phone which has all my music and all aspects of my life is with me while I fish. I try not to text much and It's a rare day when I communicate with an actual phone call but I do use my phone on the river to listen to music, take notes, track the trips expensives, and of course with take really cool pictures with photo software app that is on it. Not to mention that my phone also has gps and mapping software. If I wonder what the river looks like a couple miles up I can pull up the satellite images on my phone. Fishing even with all of these distractions does allow me to focus my thoughts and fishing also brings about inspiration. I'm a teacher and I have an app that allows me to send mass texts to all of my students and parents. Often when fishing I'm thinking about teaching and if a good idea pops into my head I can send it to all of my students right then and there. If I take a cool pic while fishing I can send it to my students via their phones, ipads or put it on my class website and have them post their thoughts on it. But back to the original thread question. When fishing I listen to everything from scratchy gritty delta blues ripped off a 45 through all kinds of metal (TON, Tool, APC, Browning, DKM) then Lil Wayne to all sorts of classic country and all the way to completely digitally made dubstep. The only music I will not listen to is Classic Rock (Van halen, AC DC, Led Zep and etc). All due respect to those bands but they have been beaten into my head since I was a kid. I also try to stay away from the current pop music. I forgot my headphones on a recent fishing trip and had Taylor Swift in my head all day singing "I knew you were trouble when you walked in.Trouble, Trouble". It was horrilble.

No music while fishing, just the sound of the wind, and once in a welcome while, my heart beating.

LOL, I always end up with an old UK no.1 (yep it was Christmas) in my head if I open the blob or booby box.

On the way to fishing I like a bit of Miles Davis or Charlie P to wind me down and get me ready for some well timed casting. The last time I had listened to BlackSabbath before fishing my rod just wasn't ever going to be fast enough laugh.png

That was a good one Piker. You have to be careful with the Black Sabbath while fishing. If you try to listen to "paranoid" or "the mob rules" while casting you will more than likely throw a body part out of joint and if you were to listen to "fluff" you could fall asleep and drown in the river.....

I made the mistake of listening to Technical Death Metal once, before fishing. I turned the water to a froth

Going to the river once with a friend, I turned up at his place with Fleetwood Mac on my car stereo. When I arrived at my friends he berated me about my choice of music, saying, "I can't understand the words".

We decanted my kit to his car and set off. He then subjected me to an opera. After a while I said,

"Didn't know you spoke Italian Geoff."

"I don't." He said.

"You hypocrite." I said. He protested that his opera was culture etc. I pointed out that he had set the criteria for good music as being able to understand the words. Therefore, Italian opera was, by his definition, not good music.

On the way back we drove in welcome silence.

Cheers,

C.

Yeah I am not surprising at all that's everybody don't listen to music on the water.

Because I'm deaf. You know if you are deaf and you hear nothing at all, being quietness and you can see everything details as a such beautiful view, forests, mountains, rocks, bald eagles, etc and fogs/snowing/raining by yourself alone.

I don't carry any things like technology but a camera for to show to my grandpa he isn't in good shape, funny thing I don't show the pictures to my friends because they think I sit, fishing, and drinking.

Endemic:

No one could absorb all that you do from your surroundings. I think the closest I ever came to that was jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. It was so quiet that another sense kicked in. That didn't last long though.

There is also nothing wrong with a little cane pole and a beer once in awhile. lol Actually I quit drinking about 6 years ago. But I still will toss a worm once in awhile.
