eide 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks, I would tie on #3 first, but it is always interesting to try to limit yourself to as few materials as possible
Crotalus 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2013 My latest go-round with crayfish. I have been trying to create a pattern of my own with a good profile and action in the water. I keep getting close, but ultimately I dont like them and make a couple variations. Once I get one that I am really happy with it I am going to tear it apart so I can use the carapace as a pattern. This one looks pretty nice sitting in a pan of water, now I have to get it on some real water and see how the action is.

Crotalus 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2013 That's a great pattern. You come up with some awesome stuff. Jeremy Thanks, the back still needs work. On the first few I have been cutting it to shape as I tie the fly which leaves it a bit rough looking. Took it to a local pond last night to see how it looks, I was happy overall with the movement. Goats 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2013 First submission to a "flies from the vice".... Top water pike fly for Lake St. Clair pike. Its still fishable after 4 pike.
Crackaig 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2013 Tomorrow I've a chance to fish the R. Brora. Just making sure I've some low water salmon flies to take along. Also threw together some Loch Ordies for a friend. First the Loch Ordie. The original called for a white cock hackle at the front, my modification is to use a soft hackle in its place. This is the Bob Wyatt variant, with a black hackle at the back Small Green Machine on a size 8 L/W single. Bit of a flight of fancy - no name... yet. Size 8 L/W single again. Thunder Stoat, also a size 8 but this is a Wilson hook so much smaller than the L/W hooks Cheers, C.
Crackaig 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Playing with bleach, turmeric, and vinegar! Don't often tie these but its fun once in a while. Cheers, C.
Christopher K 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Pretty nice fly there crackaig, although it looks as though your wing slips are from the top of the feather (tips aren't married), try closer to the bottom and they may stay together better.
Crackaig 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Thanks they are from low enough. I've just not got many to choose from. Picked the best from the two pair I had. It'll do for tonight's trip to the Brora. Cheers, C.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Night trips? You're just talking flies to look official then? How have you disguised the net?? Seriously have fun. Sea trout should be about too.
