Kudu 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2013 I try to fish away from people as much as possible. I find hunter etiquette here in Ky to be the main problem. I have had rabbit hunters park next to my house and I live a 1/3 of a mile off the road and own the surrounding land. These guys were ticketed. I also have a farm in the western part of the state. Deer hunters poach. I have also found a mobile meth lab on that farm. I hunt so I don't want poachers to shoot the animals that I have worked hard in securing appropriate habitat for them to thrive. I have never towed a vehicle I did think about hooking the tractor up to a van in my driveway once but I was afraid I would damage the vehicle. I did let the air out of all four tires (removed valve stem). I guess I am getting old and cranky but I would rather fish and/or hunt somewhere where I wont catch or see anything and not see or deal with people than I would fish or hunt a place that might be great but I have to deal with a crowd. I have basically given up on Lake Cumberland because of the crowds especially since the Buckeye Navy has now made the 3 to 4 hour trip down here every weekend to run their powerboat and jet ski patrols. I could rant on the jet skis forever but I digress. By the way Jet Skiers do not like it when you throw large pieces of rip rap at them or if you chunk a treble hook laden crankbait in their direction. Go Figure. Good for you Riff and power to those out there who don't like being f....d with. Now pass the Tylenol.

Good for you Riff and power to those out there who don't like being f....d with. Now pass the Tylenol. Right On. Way back in the 90s I lived in Nevada and we used to fish some remote coves on Lake Mead and Lake Mohave--- remote in that we would drive many miles through the desert in our 4wds to get there- but apparently not remote at all for the houseboat/jetski douchebags. We'd be fishing in one little isolated cove and of course some f-tard on a jetski who had about 100 square miles of water to play in would zoom in and do laps in the cove. A good buddy of mine discovered that marbles launched from a wrist-rocket are fairly good f-tard repellent. There are no limits anymore though. It still happens even now, here on the Susquehanna. Can't count how many times I've been sitting in my kayak drifting down fly fishing, in places where the river is nearly a half-mile wide, and some jackass in a 20 foot jetboat doesn't have any where else to go but 50 feet past me at half throttle throwing a huge wake. I don't know what it is. There are just a hell of a lot of inconsiderate fools among us. They are everywhere.
Fishiowa 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2013 the other day I was parked with my wife's truck at my local spot walking the river looking for driftwood when I returned to my truck I found that I was completely blocked in and unable to leave so I walked home (2 miles) got my truck and drove back to retrieve my wife's truck I ended up hooking up a jeep and a ford ranger and towing them into the ditch opposite side of the road before hooking my wife's truck to go home as I was moving the jeep another gentleman stopped by and told me the samething happened to him 3 weekends before and the guys who parked there didn't return for 6 hours I hope you let the air out of a couple tires before you left
Li'lDave 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2013 Hav experienced a lot of this sort of thing. And here it isnt unheard of for cars to be burnt if they park in the rigging lane at boat ramps. But in saying that we just had an awesome weekend where there were times up to 10 boats were fishing the same schools with no dramas at all. Even with a bit of light hearted sledging
GdubyaSmith 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2013 I gotta believe it's just ignorance of fishing etiquette in general combined with a society norm that has become more and more impolite every year. Being polite or having manners isn't even a consideration for some people. I struggle with "should I say something or not". If they look like rank beginners I will try to offer advice or help on some level and introduce the etiquette issue after that as another instructive point. If they just seem rude, I don't even say a word and move on myself. You only buy yourself a heap of trouble if you say anything to these people. I agree...I'd rather help somebody new and return the favor that was given to me when I started than to "be that guy" who's remembered for the wrong reason! I used to stand my ground against the Buttheads but find myself doing more Bushwhacking these days and finding more peace in the process as a result. Finding the fish vs. fishing where I want to have became the same thing now.
